Next-Generation Autonomous Research Platforms with VLA, World Models, and Robotic Experimentation

Our lab is pleased to undertake research on VLA + World Models and robot-based experimental automation as part of the National Research Laboratory (NRL 2.0) program. Through this effort, we aim to develop next-generation research platforms in which intelligent robots can understand, plan, and autonomously perform experiments.

2026 Medical Device R&D Kick-Off for On-Device Ultrasound AI

Kick-off meeting for the 2026 Korean Government Medical Device R&D Program at Samsung Medison. The consortium, including Samsung Medical Center, Ewha Womans University, and Sungkyunkwan University, officially launched the collaborative project on real-time on-device ultrasound AI for emergency and critical care applications. Ewha Womans University will lead research on quantization-based lightweight AI optimization and VLA-based intelligent scan control technologies for efficient on-device deployment.

인공지능학과 ‘MoAI 멀티모달 AI 기초연구실’ 연구팀은 국내에서 거의 시도되지 않은 창의적·도전적 연구를 지원하는 개척형 글로벌 기초연구실로 선정되어 ‘간·담·췌 다중암을 전암(Pre‑cancer) 단계에서 포착하는 멀티모달 파운데이션 AI 원천기술 개발’을 주제로 연구를 수행한다.

[New Research Grant Funded] 중견 과제 : 멀티 프레임 X선 Fluoroscopy 영상의 모션 보정 및 화질 개선을 위한 초저지연 시공간 딥러닝 모델 개발
본 연구실이 과학기술정보통신부가 주관하는 “중견연구 지원사업 도약형” 사업에 선정되었다. 이 사업은 우수 성과를 보유한 연구자에게 연구 고도화 및 혁신적인 성과 창출을 지원하는 것으로써, 본 연구실은 AI 기반 의료 영상 처리 기술을 개발하고, 국내 및 글로벌 시장에서의 사업화 및 기술 이전을 통해 의료 영상 처리 기술의 상용화를 완로하였다. 이를 통해 수술 및 진단 과정에서 높은 신뢰성과 효율성을 제공하며, 글로벌 의료 기기 시장에서의 경쟁력을 획기적으로 강화하고자 한다.

MOU with Fraunhofer IBMT for AI-Powered Biosensor Research

On April 8, 2025, our team signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBMT). We were honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Heiko Zimmermann, Director of IBMT, and Assess. jur. Peter Hauptmann, Deputy Director of IBMT, to the signing ceremony. Through this partnership, both institutions will collaborate on AI-powered biosensor research and development, aiming to advance the field of healthcare diagnostics and treatments. We look forward to our joint efforts and the groundbreaking achievements this collaboration will bring.

FAU Research Training on AI-Based Landmark Detection and Motion Compensation

Two Ph.D. students, Gihyeon and Meian, went to the Pattern Recognition Lab of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg for long-term training to conduct international collaborative research. Our team plan to jointly develop AI-based landmark detection and motion compensation technology.

본 연구실에서 “고속, 가변 프레임 디지털 엑스선 소스를 가진 투시 영상에서 딥러닝(인공지능) 기반 이미지 프로세싱 기술 개발 (방사선기술개발사업Development of Deep Learning-based Image Processing in Fluoroscopy with Fast and Variable Frame-Rated Digital X-ray Sources)” 과제를 수주하였습니다.

앞으로 3년간/년5억 연구비 지원을 받게 되며 한국전자통신연구원과 연세대학교 글로벌융합공합부와 공동연구를 진행합니다.

[New Research Grant] TPS-Based Synthetic Mammography for Early Breast Cancer Detection

본 연구실에서 유방암 조기 진단용 3차원 DBT/DOT 융합영상 및 자동병변 검출 시스템 용 “TPS 기반 합성마모 생성 모듈 제작” 과제를 수주하였습니다.

의료기기의 하드웨어와 소프트웨어의 발달로 다양한 3차원 의료영상이 촬영되고 있습니다. 3차원 의료영상은 더 많은 정보를 사용자에게 제공하고 병변이나 관심영역을 선명하게 확인할 수 있는 장점을 가집니다. 하지만, 3차원 의료영상은 판독시간을 증가시키는 단점을 가지고 있으며 2차원 영상에서 더 명확하게 보이는 병변이 존재합니다. 실제, 3차원 유방 촬영 영상인 DBT(Digital Breast Tomosynthesis)는 종괴(mass)검출률이 뛰어나고 2차원 영상인 Mammography는 미세석회화 표현에 강점을 가집니다. 임상 실험 결과 2차원과 3차원의 두 영상을 판독에 활용할 경우 더 높은 판독율을 가진다는 연구결과가 발표되고 있습니다. 3차원 영상과 2차원 영상을 각각 촬영할 경우 환자의 방사선 피폭량이 증가되기 때문에 3차원 영상에서 2차원 영상을 생성하는 방법이 사용되고 있습니다. 2차원 영상 생성시 연부조직의 중첩에 의한 문제점이 발생되어 병변이나 관심영역이 선명하게 표현되기 어렵습니다.

본 프로젝트를 통해 3차원 의료 영상에서 병변이나 관심영역을 기반으로 판독 효율을 높이는 2차원 의료 영상을 생성하고 디스플레이 하는 시스템을 개발하고자 합니다.
